Things to look for when buying

Not all i7 processors are the same

If you look at each of the i7 processors above closely, you'll notice that not all i7 processors are same. If you find a laptop listed under 30000 or 400000 with an i7 processor, we would recommend you not to buy it. Because that is an old processor.

If you look entirely at the name of an i7 processor, it would be something like Intel i7-7700K or Intel i7-10700K. The numbers that come after the processor name has great significance. The first one or two digits denote the generation.

So, Intel i7-7700K is a seventh-generation processor, while Intel i7-10700K is a tenth generation processor. That itself says a lot about the processor. Now if you want to compare two processors, we recommend you to use something like UserBenchmark.

If you go to the link above, you'll notice that the performance of the tenth generation processor is around 17% more than the seventh-generation processor. And if you go down, like to the third generation, the difference will be huge.

So it is always better to get the newer generation processor than an older one. And also, some of the later generation i5 processors are better than older i7. For example, if you compare i7-5930k with i5-10600K, the newer i5 performs better than the older generation. So it would be better to buy the i5 laptop than the i7 one.

So the bottom line is, always compare the processor number to see the performance of the laptop.

So are all RAMs the same?

More or less. There are minor differences in RAM, but there is nothing to worry about.

RAM sticks don't get upgraded as fast as processors do. Intel releases a generation of processors almost every two years. So they get outdated fast.

Anything else to look into?

Yup. We would prefer you to go with laptops that have an SSD or upgrade your Hard Disk drive to an SSD.

SSDs perform way better than traditional HDDs and you'll find yourself smiling to see the difference. Most of the costlier nowadays have two slots. One for HDD and one for SSD.

We would say, go for both. A smaller (256GB) SSD to put your operating system (Windows, Ubuntu, etc) on. And a large HDD (1 TB) to put the rest of the stuff like movies and games on.

This will drastically improve your performance and makes sure that your laptop doesn't lag at any point. After all, a computer is only as fast as the slowest part.
