It's not every day that you buy a laptop and it's better to buy one that looks absolutely gorgeous. Earlier it used to be just Apple that made premium good looking laptops, but Mi has taken a page out of their book and created a brilliant laptop.

Mi has gone with the latest of every technology available when they made this laptop. The laptop features a tenth generation Intel Core i7 processor. This is the latest generation processor from Intel. The processor is based on Comet Lake architecture. The processor is a quad-core processor with 2 threads per processor. The extra threads will give each core the ability to handle multiple tasks, thereby giving the quad-core processor the ability to behave like an eight-core processor.

The processor has a base speed of 1.80GHz and a maximum clock speed of 4.90GHz. This is one of the few laptops available in India that's on this generation of Intel processors. The laptop works extremely smooth due to the powerful processor.

Though this is an office laptop, Mi has packed power into the laptop by throwing a graphics card into the mix. The laptop features a new generation MX350 processor. The graphics card is a 2GB graphics card making this laptop suitable for minor gaming. The laptop is also great at video editing due to this graphics card. All this makes this a good value for money laptop that does every task a laptop is supposed to do brilliantly.

In the storage department, the laptop comes with 8GB of DDR4 RAM.  The RAM is more than enough for all the functions the laptop is supposed to perform. Gaming, video editing and even opening a lot of browser tabs is now easy because of this.

For more permanent storage the laptop features a 512GB SSD. The addition of SSD shows that Mi means serious business with this laptop and is here to share this segment. The SSD reduces the boot time of the laptop by about one-third of what a traditional drive will take. Studies have shown that it takes around 20-30s for Windows to boot on traditional HDDs while on an SSD it takes just around 10s. That is a massive improvement.

The display is a 14inch screen on this laptop. The screen is an anti-glare screen and has a resolution of 1920x1080. The display is full HD and is bezel-less. Even on the top, the bezel is so thin that we feel that this is one of the most gorgeous laptops that we have ever laid our eyes on.

Since the screen is bezel-less there was no space to accommodate the webcam and they have added an additional plug and play webcam with the laptop which you can use. That's a really nice gesture on the part of Mi.

You might not be able to get the higher frame rates at Ultra settings, but you will definitely be able to breeze through every game at Low or even medium settings. Games being playable at even medium is a great thing now because of how demanding games have become.

For RAM the laptop has 8GB of DDR4 memory which is enough for almost all tasks at this price range. Unless you do heavy video editing, we don't recommend upgrading the RAM. It is rare to come across applications that require anywhere near that amount of RAM unless you open around 50 browser tabs.

For storage, the laptop provides ample storage by giving a mix of both SSD and HDD. The laptop has 256GB of SSD where the operating system is loaded. The SSD helps the laptop to boot really fast. Also if you keep games there, the loading times will be reduced drastically. You can keep one or two games on your SSD since games nowadays are around 50-90GB and some even more.

The 1TB of HDD provides a lot of storage for all your movies and you can even keep game setup files on the HDD.

The laptop has 8GB of DDR4 memory. This amount of RAM is decent and you can upgrade it if you feel it is a tiny bit low, but we have never felt so. The only downside to this laptop we could figure out with this laptop is the lack of SSD. The laptop comes with a 1 TB HDD, but you can easily upgrade it to an SSD. The laptop features a dedicated SSD slot, so upgrading should be easy.

Let's get into the graphics card we mentioned before. The graphics card in this laptop is a GTX 1650 graphics card. Picking the best laptop under 60000: a guide

A laptop contains so many specifications that it is hard to point at one thing and say, hey this is exactly what I need. And it is not the specifications alone, the laptop has to look good. The fact is, you have to live with the choice until you buy some other laptop to replace it, and if you make that choice badly, then the repucursions might be bad.

So how does one go about picking a laptop?

You have to ask yourself questions, one of which you have already answered. What is your budget? Obviously it is 60000 since you searched for the best laptop under 60000.

The first question you have to ask yourself before picking a laptop is 'Why am I buying the laptop?'

The first question you have to ask yourself before picking a laptop is 'Why am I buying the laptop?'

Once you answer that question, things become easier. And don't worry this is kind of like a multiple-choice question. The options you have are, are you going to game with the laptop, or are you going to do office stuff like editing documents and watching movies on the laptop, or do you want to edit big stuff like videos? Maybe you're a developer and your program, then do you do machine learning and stuff?

If you do things like, gaming, video editing, machine learning, etc. what you need is a laptop with a graphics card. This means you have to sacrifice portability a bit. Then the question is how much are you willing to sacrifice?

Now that you have answered the questions, let's go into an analysis of what each part of a laptop does and which one you should get. If you don't do any of the heavy stuff like gaming, or video editing as mentioned above, you can skip the part where we mention graphics card.

The major parts of a laptop are its processor, RAM, graphics card (all laptops have one, the question is dedicated or integrated, which we will get into soon) and storage.

Let's start with the brain of the computer, the processor.

How to pick the best processor

AMD Ryzen Processor
AMD Ryzen Processor

CPU or processor is the brain of the computer. This is the part that does all the calculations, does all the processing that happens in the computer.

Processors are manufactured mainly by two companies Intel and AMD. Both produce great chips that are used widely. Intel series of processors include Core i3, i5, i7 and i9. AMD processor series include Ryzen 3, 5 and 7. The higher the number, the better the performance. So, i7 performs better than i5, which in turn performs better than i3 and so on.

But things are not so straightforward. All i3 processors are not similar. This is because every time a new technological advancement happens, the manufacturers release a series of processors. They call it generation. Currently, Intel processors are in the tenth generation. The previous generation processors are called 9th and so on.

It is always better to get the latest generation processors as they are technically more recent and performs far better than its previous generation counterparts. Some of the newer generation processors are so good that they outperform the lower versions. For example, the tenth generation i5 processors work a lot better than fifth generation i7 processors.

Now the question is how do we know the generations? Intel processors are named something like i5-9300H. The first part, i5 is easy. We mentioned it earlier. The second part is the hard part. The first or the first two digits says the generation. So in this case, the processor is a 9th generation processor. The 10th generation processor will be named something like i5-10600K.

The rest of the digits are for stock-keeping by Intel. The last letter is for different versions. K stands for performance and so on.

If you have two processors and you want to compare their performance, the easiest way would be to use a tool such as UserBenchmark. Here is a comparison between Intel Core i5-5200U and i7-7700K. You can easily compare two processors using this tool.

Graphics card

Graphics card
Graphics card

Most people think that the graphics card is necessary only for gaming laptops. But that is not true. Every laptop needs a graphics card. It is the graphics card that displays what you see on the screen.

You might be like, I am definite that my laptop doesn't have a graphics card. The truth is you don't have a dedicated graphics card. It is the word dedicated that makes all the difference. You might be having either an integrated graphics card or processor graphics.

The integrated graphics card is a graphics card that is a part of the motherboard, which is integrated at the silicon level. There's no way you can separate it from the motherboard or change it. This is one type of graphics card you might be having.

Processor graphics is a graphics card that is physically in the processor package or integrated into the processor silicon.

If you are not a big fan of gaming or doesn't do much gaming, it doesn't make sense for you to have a dedicated graphics card. The integrated and processor graphics cards are powerful enough to take you through all the tasks that you need on a daily level.

Now let's talk about dedicated graphics cards. Dedicated graphics cards are mainly manufactured by two companies, Nvidia and AMD. Graphics cards which are made by them are mostly used for gaming or for crypto mining and similar tasks.

Nvidia has their gaming line up for graphics cards known as GeForce graphics cards. The latest of their graphics cards have a feature called ray tracing. This is in their RTX series of graphics cards.

Nvidia graphics cards are named GTX1050, GTX 970, and so on. Here also, the first one or two digits of the numbers shows the generation. So the first card is 10th and the second is 9th. There is also the RTX series which as I mentioned above, is the latest and has ray tracing technology in it.

Ray tracing is the technology by which the path of a ray of light is drawn to get an accurate amount of reflection. Earlier the path of only the light that was on the screen could be drawn, but now with ray tracing effects such as scattering of light when it hits an object, scattering by fog etc is achievable giving it an extra amount of reality.

At this price range, the best graphics card we could find was the GTX1650 Ti graphics card. That is a respectable graphics card capable of playing all the modern titles at Low or Medium settings.

If you try to push the graphics card beyond these limits, tearing will occur. Tearing is the process by which frame rate is so low that you will miss frames. For your eyes to see something like a video, it needs at least around 23 frames per second. When the number of frames is lower than that you will feel like the game is sort of stuck, and moving and stuck. This is called tearing.

RAM

RAM
RAM

This must be one of the components you're used to hearing a lot. Whenever your laptop is slow, you might have heard the advice of upgrading your RAM. But is upgrading the RAM the solution? And how much RAM do you need?

Something which we have found ourselves after having to upgrade a lot of slow laptops is that RAM is not always the first culprit. But we will talk about that culprit later. But for now, let's stick with RAM.

RAM is temporary storage for faster access to data for CPU. CPU or the processor is extremely fast and there is no way the HDD could give data as fast as the CPU needs it. RAM is the temporary storage area that lies between the CPU and the processor and helps the CPU access data faster.

RAM is essential till a certain point, I mean there's only this much data that needs to be handled at a time We would recommend having an 8GB of RAM for all needs at this price point. Having 16GB would be awesome, but we don't think you'll be able to put that to use unless you game or so. Having 32GB would be useful only if you do video editing.

Storage

Hard Disk
Hard Disk

This is the true culprit of slow laptops. The rate at which HDDs give data to the processor or RAM is so slow that they slow everything down. Replace them with SSDs and your problems will be solved.

How much of storage someone needs is more of a personal question rather than something which can be answered easily. Always get an SSD. Getting a smaller SSD also works. Keep the operating system (Windows, Ubuntu) on the SSD and keep the rest of the data on the HDD.

This will result in the laptop starting up (booting) faster and having fewer lags during usage.

256GB or even 128GB SSD would be enough for basic needs and pair that with a 1TB HDD and you have an awesome combo. If you're not a fan of HDD at all you can go for a 512GB or even 1TB SSD, but keep in mind that the SSDs are expensive and they're going to leave a hole in your pocket.

Conclusion

Armed with all the information above, we hope that you'd be able to make a great purchase the best laptop under 60000 in India.

Finding the best laptop is more of a journey and a discovery. Take your time to figure out which laptop suits you better and pick that one instead of making choices based on reviews. Go through the guide and get an understanding of how each part works and apply that. May the force be with you.
