Alienware m15, m17 R3 and Area 51 R2

The release of new Alienware laptops is a huge thing. Alienware is a name that every gamer is familiar with and is something that every gamer aspires to own. I remember the first time I saw an Alienware, all I could do for the next few days were to dream of owning one of them for myself.

Gaming laptops are pinnacles of gaming technology. For one reason, since they are portable and small, it is extremely hard to dissipate the heat generated during gaming. This means that either you need excellent technology for cooling or you can clock the processor and graphics card to run at lower speeds to decrease the amount of heat generated. The first method is the one we need. Now let us talk about the laptops.

Alienware m15 and m17

The new Alienware laptops are extremely thin. Having just 20.5mm height for m15 and 22.5 for m17, these are incredibly thin for gaming laptops. Gaming laptops are generally bulky as mentioned earlier for heat dissipation. Making a laptop thinner and at the same time cooler is a giant feat.

One of the technologies that caused the laptop to be thinner is the Magnesium alloy used in the laptop, a page from the book called Area 51. The fans in the laptop has been re-engineered to have 132 blades for more air supply and the pipe surface area has been increased by around 40%. More surface area means more area for the heat to dissipate.

On the performance side of things, Alienware lets you configure the laptop from a quad core 10th-gen Intel Core i5-10300H processor all the way up to an eight-core Intel Core i9-10980HKCPU. Talk about performance. For graphics they start with a GeForce GTX 1650Ti, though I wonder who wants that, and can be tuned up all the way to the great GeForce RTX 2080 Super with a Max-Q design. And if you are an AMD fan, you can get it in red too, with AMD’s Radeon RX 5500M graphics.

Aliewnare has added a display with a refresh rate of whooping 300Hz, which is crazy. The display is in UHD OLED for life like colors. Nvidia card users can have the display with G-Sync.

Alienware claims that its new two-way stereo speakers deliver more than twice the treble and 2.5 times the bass of the outgoing R2 series laptops. The audio which was excellent in the previous laptop has also been made louder by around 30%.

The laptop will be available by May 21.

This is the holy grail of gamers. A laptop which seriously reduced the gap between desktop and laptop gaming.

The bezels in the laptop has been thinned out so much that you feel immersed while gaming. With a mind blowing 300Hz refresh rate, and UHD OLED display, this laptop is perfect for gaming.

Alienware claims that a new vapour chamber technology has been developed which helps dissipate heat from extreme-performance graphics options. The copper chamber transfer the heat efficiently when paired with the hexagonal vents and larger fans. Alienware claims to have achieved a 47% improvement in the airflow rate.

Area 51 also comes in the same specs as the M15 and m17 and is hugely customisable.
